Open-Faced Vegan Black Bean Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 398 ml can of black beans
  • 1 cup grated cassava
  • 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 clove garlic - minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • 3/4 cup oats - ground into flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon tamari
  • 2 teaspoon chipotle powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 tablespoon ground flax seed
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1⁄4 cup ketchup
  • 4 slices of vegan provolone cheese
  • 4 leaves of lettuce
  • 4 tomato slices

Preparation

  1. Combine ground flax seed with 1/3 cup hot water. 
  2. Roughly mash into black beans with potato masher or fork - leaving some beans whole. 
  3. Combine remaining ingredients. 
  4. Form into four patties. 
  5. Pan fry in olive oil until crispy and cooked through, turning once. 
  6. Grill the Oroweat® Organic 22 Grains & Seeds slices. 
  7. Grill bread. 
  8. Mix mayonnaise and ketchup, set aside. 
  9. Layer Oroweat w/ slice of provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and black bean burger. 
  10. Add dollop of mayonnaise mixture.
